The assessment aims to identify the applicant’s current relevant qualities and vocational abilities. An assessment is not a test or exam to determine whether the applicant has sufficient knowledge. Practising tests may enable a participant to be more relaxed when participating in the assessment. Though, on the contrary, such preparations may generate extra stress for others.

The SHL website provides some practice tests, questionnaires and sample questions.

Rake believes that the best results are achieved if the applicant participates in the assessment in an open, discriminating, and self-critical manner. It is however useful to think carefully about commitment, ambition, strengths, points for development and motivation, beforehand. It may also be useful to ask colleagues at work and people in one’s daily environment, what they see as one’s strengths and what abilities they believe one should develop further. Sufficient self-knowledge is the best form of preparation.
